When testing oil appliances, the flue gas sample contains combustion residue that's oilier and behaves differently to the particulate from a gas boiler, and a standard 1-micron PTFE filter can clog rapidly under that load. The 3-micron (3UM) PTFE filter included in this set has a coarser pore size than the standard filter — a deliberate choice for oil testing, since a finer filter would saturate too quickly with oil residue and risk coating the sensor elements.
